Something Austin: My Ziplining Experience

Saturday morning came bright and early but this time it wasn't because of a school-related reason. It was because three of my friends and I had reservations to go zip lining with Lake Travis Zipline Adventures! We were all very excited, and after a nourishing and delicious breakfast, we set off on the windy highway out to Lake Travis for our zipline adventure!

Upon arrival, we signed a waiver, played a couple intense rounds of bean bags, and loaded up the van that would take us to our destination. Once we got off the van, we immediately loaded onto a pontoon boat that would take us to the actual starting point. We got all harnessed up (which are just so attractive - are there ANY good shorts to wear when one has to put on a harness?), and set off on our two and a half hour tour that featured a little bit of hiking and five different ziplines with heights ranging from 250 feet to over 2000 feet in the air. The first two ziplines were short, but they got us excited to tackle the bigger zips that we had ahead of us.

The views were absolutely incredible, as was to be expected, as Lake Travis is one of the prettiest parts of Austin, and our tour guides were just hilarious. They seemed to really love their job, which means so much to people who have never zip lined before. They were constantly cracking jokes while managing to keep us safe as we zipped over Lake Travis.

We all agreed that we were glad we did the first tour of the day as it got very hot very quickly. Luckily, they had more water bottles than the lake had water, so we managed to stay very hydrated. Nonetheless, we were still sweating bullets by the time we finished the final half-mile long zip, starting from higher than 2000 feet in the air. All sweat aside, we all agreed that we had the greatest time, it was so nice to be outdoors, away from campus and the craziness of finals as we crossed something else off of our Austin bucket lists.

If you are looking for something for the thrill-seeker in you, I definitely recommend trying out Lake Travis Zipline Adventures. You get a little bit of a workout, some incredible views, and a wonderful experience. Well worth the time it took to drive out there, and it was a great paper-writing break! Now I am ready to get my booty back in gear!
